History of Tamanu Oil
We can learn a lot from the Melanesian culture. Their spirituality is inextricably connected to their ancestral heritage, their ancient land, age-old traditions and religious/cultural customs. Where modern medicine fails, traditional health remedies have much to offer. One of their best-kept secrets is Tamanu Oil. Local Ni Vanuatu klevas (healers) refer to it in their native language as "Nabakura". This miracle oil has been used for centuries as a tropical first aid for a wide range of skin aliments.
The oil is cold pressed from the nut kernels of the Tamanu Tree (known scientifically as Calophyllum Inophyllum) which is an evergreen tree and a member of the Mangosteen Family. It grows profusely in the exotic Melanesian islands of Vanuatu, preferring the salty, sandy soil near the sea. Vanuatu is known to produce some of the highest quality Tamanu oil in the world.
While modern medicine has come a long way, it still finds answers in the tried and tested methods of the ancient Melanesian culture.
